Alaska Airlines also announced new nonstop service between PDX and Maui today, too. Looks like they'll be competing head-to-head against Aloha's 767 on that route. Will be fun to see the Eskimo wearing a lei on the tail of the ETOPS-rated 737-800 at PDX. Northwest also competes with Aloha on flights to Honolulu as well.
Also, Air Canada announced new nonstop service between PDX and Calgary today, starting in May. Yay! Word is that this service will be provided with one of Jazz's CRJ planes. Jazz already flies to Vancouver, BC out of PDX on Dash-8 turboprops.
Finally, this is old news, but I neglected to mention it here. As a result of their merger, Delta and Northwest are rejiggering some of their service out of PDX. It's all pretty much the same now anyway, since Delta has begun repainting Northwest planes in Delta colors now. However, it looks like legacy Delta ops will be taking over Northwest's international service to Amsterdam and Tokyo-Narita as of June. This probably just means that they will replace the A330's from Northwest with Boeing 767's from the Delta side instead. Not a big deal, but interesting. Wikipedia also mentions the commencement of a flight to Mumbai out of PDX on Delta in June. Really? I haven't seen this anywhere else. Continued service on the 767 from Narita, maybe? Hmmm.
