PMDG Promises the NGX Is Near!

Today, Captain Robert Randazzo of PMDG gave the fans a major update on the status of the 737 NGX.  And the news is all good - it seems we will be scheduling our delivery flights of the NGX very, very soon.

I don't know about you, but I'm as giddy as a schoolboy on Christmas Eve.  Been looking forward to this one for a long, long time - and it definitely looks like it will be worth the wait.

Foolishly, I actually thought today would be the day....

Given some of RSR's recent comments, I have a feeling the release of the NGX will be almost anticlimactic. RSR mentioned that they have set the bar very high internally, so that the usual "beta period" will be a very short period to test last-minute issues before release. I have a feeling when the beta period hits, we'll see a bunch of new screenshots and a feature exposé, and then BAM! It will be out before we realize it.

I'm thinking it will be very, very soon. It sounds like most of the team has already moved on to the 777, Dash-8, and possibly other as-yet unannounced projects.

Oh, I did see somewhere they are also planning a redo of the 747, using some of the new technology they developed for the NGX and 777. That is great news. I love the 747, but a refresh would be awesome.

Nice! Good to have your insight. From the few posts I read it seems Beta has begun right? Though there are no shots/vids, my impression was that the Beta was nevertheless way underway.

They really did start over on a blank slate which is what I'm most pumped about - the tech/features of what's in this and what to expect with the triple 7 sounds awesome. Especially since the 777 has a mouse scratchpad and electronic checklists.

I remember reading an RSR post on how anticlimatic their past releases have been and this will likely be the same, so it gets my hoeps up every time I check. I just shot the River Visual 19 at DCA from Manchester this morning and I realized extreme stunts like this are ever more evidence I need to get back into something smaller asap.

There is definitely some indication from some of their latest posts that the beta period may begin today. Great news! Perhaps if all goes well, maybe we will see the NGX by the end of April? Who knows.

On another note, I got to thinking about the "mystery feature" of the CoolSky DC-9 some more. One thing I would love to see is some kind of flight navigation worksheet, to help you plan and keep track of your route as you fly, the way a real old-school pilot would do. When navigating old-school (usually in the CS 727 or 707) I normally write out all the VOR frequencies and place/bearing/distance parameters of airspace fixes on a piece of scratch paper, using info from places like Airnav. Wouldn't it be nice to have that functionality included with the sim, so you wouldn't have to write all that stuff down? Again, who knows. Just another feature I thought would be cool.
